Dubai Opera has rolled out its September schedule, and it’s packed with something for just about everyone—from classical ballet to pop tributes. The month-long lineup features four different productions, including five performances of a Romeo and Juliet ballet, Verdi’s La Traviata opera, a one-night-only concert from French-Canadian artist Margaux Sauvé, and a tribute show dedicated to Michael Jackson.
Jump Ahead To:
Here’s what’s coming to the venue this September.
Romeo and Juliet: The Greatest Love Story of All Time — September 9-11
Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers is getting the ballet treatment courtesy of the State Ballet of Georgia. Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s score, the production follows Romeo and Juliet as they navigate their forbidden romance against the backdrop of their feuding families. It’s a story everyone knows, but watching it unfold through dance gives it a different kind of emotional weight.
The ballet runs over three days with five total performances: September 9 at 8pm, September 10 at 2pm and 8pm, and September 11 at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets start at Dh325.
La Traviata — September 13-14
Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata is one of those operas that’s stuck around for a reason. The four-act production tells the story of Violetta, a courtesan, and Alfredo Germont, whose love affair is doomed from the start. Verdi’s music is gorgeous and heartbreaking in equal measure, and if you’ve never seen the opera live, this is a solid opportunity.
Performances are scheduled for September 13 and 14, both at 8pm. Tickets also start at Dh325.
Ghostly Kisses — September 17
Margaux Sauvé, the French-Canadian singer-songwriter behind the project Ghostly Kisses, is making a rare Middle East appearance with a single show at Dubai Opera. She’ll be performing tracks from her debut album “Heaven, Wait,” including fan favorites like “Empty Note” and “Heartbeat.”
According to the venue, this will be Ghostly Kisses’ biggest concert to date and her only show in the MENA region this autumn. If you’re into atmospheric, emotionally resonant indie pop, this one’s worth checking out.
The concert is set for September 17 at 8pm, with tickets starting at Dh175—making it the most affordable show in the September lineup.
Michael Lives Forever: A Tribute to Michael Jackson — September 23-24
Dubai Opera is closing out the month with what it’s calling the world’s largest tribute to Michael Jackson. Rodrigo Teaser, a multi-talented performer, will take the stage to recreate some of Jackson’s most iconic hits, including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” “Smooth Criminal,” and “Thriller.”
The show isn’t just about the music. It includes full costumes and choreography curated by Lavelle Smith, who worked as a dancer and choreographer with Jackson himself. That level of authenticity should give the production some serious credibility among fans.
Performances are scheduled for September 23 and 24, both at 8pm. Tickets start at Dh295.
